The Urban League of Springfield held its annual graduation Tuesday night for its “Be the STEM” program.

“Be the STEM” is aligned with the Urban League’s focus on helping minority and low income students enter careers related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

There’s also community involvement component.

Frank Lowe, a graduate of the program, told 22News, “It’s good for yourself ’cause you also get that feeling of accomplishment ’cause you’re helping out a person from the goodness of your heart.  And it’s more of how you do it, not who makes you do it.”

“Be the STEM” hopes to bridge the education and employment gaps that confront the minority community.

Tuesday’s graduation was held at the Schibelli Enterprise Center at STCC.
